Most of their furniture is based on the look of furniture in the 1950's. One of the biggest sellers is the Eames Lounge Chair. It sits at a fifteen degree angle which makes it very comfortable to sit in. Plus you can't see any of the bolts and screws that hold the lounge chair together. They made their furniture to be very beautiful but they also want people to enjoy sitting in the furniture. They are known for blending comfort and appeal in their furniture.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe is known for making the Barcelona Chair. This chair first appeared in the furniture world in the 1970's. Then in 1977, the Barcelona Chair won the Museum of Modern Art Award. The chair is very simple and has a dimpled design on it. It comes in some very bold colors that highlights some of the chairs' best features. This includes the frame of the chair, and the frame is very functional and artistic. The legs of the chair is crossed to create a very distinctive look.

Herman Miller

Herman Miller is known as a visionary of modern furniture for this century. He is one of the most successful furniture designers of all time. It is best known for his George Nelson coconut chair, which now is worth over five thousand dollars. It is one of the most contemporary and beautiful works of furniture. The chair is named after the person that Herman did most of his work with.

These three designers are the ones that made the biggest impressions of the mid century modern furniture even though there are many others.

  1. The first style of modern furniture comes from the 20th century. Usually this style is more on the contemporary side of furniture. The designers who this furniture likes to look at older styles of furniture to base most of their work on.

  7. Based on the culture of Scandinavia. This means that the designers use a lot of the shapes of the architecture that is in Scandinavia to make their furniture look a lot like those different designs.
